Instrument Rating

An Instrument Rating involves additional training beyond a Private Pilot License (PPL) and typically includes extensive ground school instruction and flight training. During the training, pilots learn how to use various instruments and navigation aids, such as radio navigation systems and global positioning system (GPS), to fly an aircraft safely and accurately.

Course Overview

One-on-One Training

  • The training for an Instrument Rating also covers topics such as weather analysis, instrument approach procedures, and emergency procedures in the event of an instrument failure.
  • Overall, an Instrument Rating is a valuable certification for pilots who want to expand their flying abilities and increase their proficiency in operating an aircraft in a wider range of conditions.
  • After completing the training and passing a practical flight test with an FAA examiner, a pilot is issued an Instrument Rating, which allows them to legally fly an aircraft in IMC conditions.
Requirements
1.
Be at least 17 years old to receive your private pilot certificate.

Obtain a medical certificate.
3.
Hold at least a current private pilot certificate.
